Talks, talks, talks …

Last week was a busy week, with talks from our undergraduate project students Rachel, Steffan and Nick (and a celebration lunch in Cosmo afterwards!).

In addition, Prof. Julius Vancso (Twente University, the Netherlands) also visited the School of Chemistry.  Peter from the FRG gave a great talk as part of the preceding mini-symposium before Prof Vancso’s fascinating talk!

Well done to all from the FRG!

FRG Christmas Party 2015!

Members of the FRG (who were in Bristol, and not at the MRS meeting in Boston!), joined in the FRG Christmas celebrations! Excellent cakes were prepared (and enjoyed!), and some fantastic presents were shared!  See the photos for more details!

Heidelberg-Kyoto-Bristol Symposium 2015

A “Chemistry and Materials Session” was organised (by Charl) to take place on Friday, 6th of November, as part of the HKB Symposium 2015.  With an exciting line-up of speakers, and a poster session at the end of the day it was a great opportunity to learn about local and international science!

The event ended on a high note with a speakers dinner held at the M-Shed Industrial Museum at the harbour side in Bristol.

Yaozu (and Irrum and Eugenie!) leaving Bristol

It was a sad occasion when we said goodbye to Yaozu, who is about to head back to China.  Hard to believe that the two years have passed so quickly!  We said goodbye in true FRG style … by having a meal at Cosmo!

We also took this opportunity to say goodbye to Irrum (who spent 6 very productive  months in the FRG) and Eugenie (who spent 6 weeks in the FRG)!

We hope to see all of you back soon again, and look forward to continued contact and collaborations!

Busy week!

Not only did we celebrate Pete‘s birthday (congrats!), but the final year PhD students also gave talks within the School of Chemistry last week.

Ben, Carl and James all gave excellent talks. At the wine reception at the end of the day Professor Paul Pringle (Head of the Inorganic and Materials Chemistry section) announced that Ben was one of two prizewinners for the day!  Well done Ben!
