Paper with Yaozu, Jens and Arne accepted for publication!

We just heard the good news that a paper with former post-doc Yaozu (now a professor at Donghua University in Shanghai), and close collaborators Jens Weber (Zittau) and Arne Thomas (TU Berlin) have been accepted for publication in Chemistry of Materials.

More details to follow on the paper “Conjugated Microporous Polycarbazole Networks as Precursors for Nitrogen Enriched Microporous Carbons for CO2 Storage and Electrochemical Capacitors“.  Well done to all involved!

New members!

A large group of researchers have just joined the group! Welcome to Nan (BCFN MSc, co-supervised by Natalie Fey), Xiaoyu (BCFN MSc, co-supervised by Annela Seddon), Christian (BCFN PhD, co-supervised by Jonathan Rossiter), Esther (BCFN PhD, co-supervised by Annela Seddon), Betty (BCFN PhD, co-supervised by Ian Manners), and Özlem (post-doc!).

Welcome to all!

Dr Pete!

Pete (also known to some as Piotr!) had his viva earlier this week. Prof Ronald Osterbackca (from Abo Akademi, Turku, Finland) was his external examiner, and Dr Annela Seddon (Director of the BCFN, where Pete received his funding from) his internal examiner.  Ronald also gave an excellent talk the afternoon before, setting the stage for the viva!

As is evident from the photo the viva went very well! Pete did a great job, and impressed his examiners! Well done Dr Pete!

Timms Symposium 2017 … with a great line-up of speakers!

We had the pleasure of hosting the annual materials chemistry, the Timms Symposium, last week here in Bristol.

Close collaborator and good friend, Prof Xi Zhang from Tsinghua University, was the Timms Lecturer for 2017.  He was supported on the day by excellent presentations by Dr Annela Seddon (Director of the BCFN), Prof. Jean-Francois Lutz (Strasbourg), Jess Gwyther (from the Manners group) and Jason Potticary (from the Hall group).

We were also very pleased that Liz Timms, the late Peter Timms wife, could join for the afternoon, and hand over a small award to Prof Zhang!

47 minutes for BISC!

Xiaoyu ran the Bristol 10k on Sunday for Bisc with a number of other international students, volunteers (and Jacqueline!). They all ran to help to raise money for the building project to extend the building at Bisc – a home away from home for all international students.

He ran an amazing time of 47 minutes – without any training! Well done Xiaoyu, and all the others for completing the race!
