Fantastic! Well done Veronica!
We had the pleasure of hosting Dr Samuel Chigome, Secretary of the African Materials Research Society and based at BITRI, Botswana, for a quick one-day visit. This was a a great opportunity to continue discussions and expansion of our Bristol chapter of the AMRS (BCAMRS).
More updates and information to follow about BCAMRS soon! See below a photo from our recent launch event, kindly hosted by Jacqueline at the Bristol International Student Centre (BISC).
We had the pleasure of hosting a group of colleagues from the Department of Chemistry from Tsinghua University, Beijing, here in Bristol! Great to have Prof Xun Wang, Lei Liu and others all contributing to a fantastic one-day symposium! Here a photo of speakers and those involved in the symposium.
Thanks to all involved for a great day of exciting science! We are already looking forward to the next instalment – in Beijing in 2020!
Basiram has very recently joined the Faul Research Group from the Central University of Tamil Nadu, India. He secured a prestigious National Overseas Scholarship of India for his PhD studies that will focus on the preparation of functional conjugated microporous polymers for CO2 capture and conversion.
Welcome Basiram!
… since our last post! Apologies! Lots have been happening since the end of March, with Charl teaching at Tsinghua, visiting Jilin and attending the UoB’s graduation ceremony (see the video here!).
In addition, Basiram has joined the group as new PhD student, and Sebastien has joined as independent research fellow, with several more visitors arriving over the summer! And, as always, someone will be leaving – this time Maciek, who will be taking up an independent academic position in Bath (congrats!).
And, finally, we hope to have some good news on some big publications very soon! More news, updates and pictures to follow soon!
Well done to Marcos – graduating today to receive his BCFN MSc in Nanoscience and Functional Nanomaterials!
And great to have him on board as a joint PhD student between the Dicker and Faul research groups! Well done Marcos!
It was great to be able to host (with fantastic support from the BCFN) 5 staff and 10 graduate students from the State Key Laboratory for Supramolecular Structure and Materials, College of Chemistry, Jilin University (Changchun, China)! The visit, to discuss new joint undergraduate programmes, and to further explore research interactions, was a fantastic success!
There was also a poster session, where Esther and Christian presented some of their latest results! More photos to follow!
Great to see old friends again (including Prof Kun Liu and Dayang Wang), but also to make many new friends and connections!
Fantastic effort by members of the FRG who helped, with other volunteers, to prepare 225 meals for new international students at BISC last week – a new record! What a wonderful way to help to make those who are new to the UK, and to Bristol, feel welcome!
Well done to all who helped throughout the busy evening!
Charl has just completed a short, but busy, trip: after visiting Shu-Hong’s labs, an additional visit to the Hefei University of Technology, the International Conference on Energy and Environmental Materials (all in Hefei), and then the International Seminar on Advanced Materials (in Shanghai)!
As the latter was held at Donghua University, Charl had the chance to catch up with former postdoc Yaozu (now professor at Donghua), who also attended the conference. Charl also managed to visit a small company in Anji, a smaller city close to Hangzhou – busy time indeed!
