Tsinghua Xuetang lectures at an end…

After a number of lectures introducing liquid crystals and soft matter to the undergraduate students from the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University, Charl’s time in China is slowly coming to an end.

Charl in China…

Charl has been in China for the past two weeks, lecturing at the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, in their Tsinghua Xuetang programme for undergraduate students (“Introduction to Liquid Crystals and Soft Matter”), as well as joining in discussion with Prof Xi Zhang and his group on various collaborative projects.

Tsinghua XuetangHe has just arrived in snowy Changchun today, where he will give a research seminar at the College of Chemistry, Jilin University, invited by Prof Junqi Sun.

Saravanan at ICONN 2013 conference, INDIA

Saravanan attended the International conference on nanoscience and nanotechnology (ICONN2013), held in Chennai, India (18-20 March 2013). This excellent conference was organized by SRM university. Saravanan presented the latest results from his research (”Liquid-crystalline tetra(aniline)s for photovoltaic applications”). This was an excellent opportunity to meet the national and international scientists and students from various parts of the world (India, Japan, New Zealand, Mexico, Switzerland, Ireland, USA, Germany, etc).

It was a very good trip!!!!

He gave an excellent lecture (preceded by talks by Geri Echue (FRG) and Huibin Qiu (Manners group) as part of the Inorganic and Materials Chemistry Section seminar series.

An excellent start to 2013: Kyoto-Bristol joint symposium

The year has started on a high note with a large delegation (>100) from Kyoto University visiting Bristol on the 10th and 11th of January.  A number of parallel sessions are being held across campus, actively investigating opportunities for further collaboration. Charl is actively involved in the Materials Chemistry sessions.

7 FRG members at Elecmol ’12 in Grenoble, France

Seven group members (Feli, Saravanan, Angel, Alex, James, Ben and Charl) are attending Elecmol ’12 in Grenoble, France (with 6 posters and 1 oral presentation!).  This exciting event, co-organised by our close collaborator Dr Patrice Rannou, has been a very good way of experiencing good science (and some good food!).

Minatec

The event is held at Minatec’s conference facility in Grenoble.

NSQI-MANA joint symposium

Prof Aono, director-general of MANA, organised an excellent half-day symposium, with speakers from the NSQI and MANA.  After such a good start we look forward to active exchange of researchers between Bristol and Tsukuba!
