Alex’s paper accepted for publication in JACS!

We have just heard that Alex’s manuscript into the formation of conductive self-assembled nanowires based on TANI-surfactants has been accepted for publication in JACS!  This study was a multi-researcher international collaborative effort, with contributions from Aalto University, Tsinghua University and the BCFN in Bristol!

More details to follow … but in the meantime congratulations to all who contributed!

Pete’s poster prize!

Peter presented his work at a poster session on Friday evening at ChinaNANO 2015 as part of the BCFN trip to China, and won one of only 22 poster prizes for ALL posters presented at the conference! In a double win for the School of Chemistry, Jason Potticary (from the Hall group), also won a poster prize! Well done!

The BCFN in China … visiting Tsinghua!

Peter is in China with a group of staff and students from the BCFN, including Charl (who organised the trip!).  They spent the day at the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, hosted by Professors Xi Zhang, Dongsheng Liu and Assoc Prof Zhongqiang Yang.

In addition to a lunch-time poster session, all students gave talks!  Here photos of Pete in action!

Visitor from UNAM, Mexico City

Elizabeth (Ruiz Garduno) is visiting the FRG, hosted by the BCFN, for 6 weeks (until mid September).  She is currently a Masters student from the Institute of Materials, UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), Mexico City. Contact was established with the FRG during Charl’s previous trips to Mexico.

Elizabeth

Although her research work in Mexico is focussed on the preparation of nanostructured inorganic materials, she is gaining experience in the preparation of porous conjugated materials during her stay in Bristol. Welcome!

Charl talking in Prague … and James winning a poster prize!

James and Charl are in Prague attending the Functional Nanomaterials 2015 conference, held at the Department of Chemistry, Charles University.  Charl might have given an invited keynote lecture, but …

James won the second prize for his poster entitled “Two-Dimensional Self-Assembly of Oligo(aniline)s: a Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Study”! Well done James!

Dongsheng Liu visiting Bristol

A good friend and colleague from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University in Beijing, Prof Dongsheng Liu, is visiting the FRG.  Dongsheng spent two days interacting with members of the FRG and talking to other colleagues in the BCFN and the School of Chemistry.

Dongsheng

He also gave a overview of some of the new developments in his laboratories! Great to have Dongsheng here in Bristol! Charl and colleagues from the BCFN will see Dongsheng (and colleagues) in September in Beijing for ChinaNano 2015.

Paper accepted – Small!

A paper by (Dr) Ben Brown, entitled “Reversible Conductive-AFM Patterning of Organic Semiconductors” was accepted by Small! The study outlines a conductive-AFM redox-writing (cAROW) technique, and show that it is possible to locally, and reversibly, pattern conducting and non-conducting features on the surface of oligo(aniline)s.

BCFN

This project was done in close collaboration with Dr Loren Picco and Prof Mervyn Miles FRS, from the Nanophysics and Soft Matter group in School of Physics.  It is obvious from the image that Ben (now working for GE in Bristol) was sponsored by the BCFN!
