With the sun shining and time for a break from the lab, the Hall and Faul groups headed out to South Wales to Rhossili Bay for a day of swimming, beach games, bbq’ing and fun!

Charl spent two days in Germany last week, visiting friends, collaborators and ex-colleagues at the TUBerlin, the newly opened BasCat joint laboratories, and the MPI for Colloids and Interfaces (where Charl spent 4 years).
It was a great time to catch up, but more importantly, to learn about and be inspired by excellent science! Very exciting!
Charl is currently attending the International Conference on Synthetic Metals, ICSM2014, in Turku, where he gave a talk on Thursday. The conference, organised by Ronald Osterbacka and colleagues in Turku, has attracted a large number of research active in the fields of conducting and semi-conduncting organic materials.
Great conference, with a great conference dinner in Turku Castle!
We have the pleasure of having Jasper (from Wageningen, the Netherlands) and Paul (from the Institute of Molecular Engineering, Chicago, USA) visiting Bristol as part of the BCFN‘s seminar series. James, from the FRG, also gave a short talk as part of the afternoon’s activities.
Lots of exciting science, great talks, and very nice to have two excellent speakers from outside Bristol here!
Today was the launch of our new, once-a-month, freestyle group meeting! We headed to Boston Tea Party on Park Street for our inaugural meeting!
Good to be out of the office on such a nice day! Thanks also to Yaozu who remembered to take a photo!
The paper with colleagues from Xi’an Jiaotong University, outlining a facile preparation method for hollow tetra(aniline)-shell microspheres, was published earlier today in the Journal of Materials Chemistry B. Well done to Lv (first author) for her hard work!
Yaozu’s Chem Comm manuscript has now been published. This article is freely available as an open-access article! Feel free to download it from here!
We have just heard that Yaozu’s manuscript, discussing the preparation of novel N-containing microporous conjugated materials, has been accepted for publication in Chemical Communications! This project, showing the potential of these materials for gas separation, was done in collaboration with Jens Weber (Zittau, Germany).
Congrats Yaozu!
