Apart from being famous for its chemistry, Bristol is also famous for Wallace and Gromit, two characters created by Aardman Animations! For a short period you will be able to find 80 Gromit’s unleashed and dotted around Bristol and surrounds, all in support of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the fantastic Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity. With the sun shining in Bristol (!), Carl and Zhonghua have been out hunting down Gromit statues … here a few examples!

Charl and the Bristol 10k
Charl ran the Bristol 10K race on Sunday, the 5th of May, to help raise money for local charity BISC (or Bristol International Student Centre). He ran with a team of 9 other volunteers and international students, and was very pleased to have finished the race in just over 55 minutes.
Here Charl is celebrating with other BISC runners after the race!

UoB Graduation ceremony in Beijing
Charl attended the University of Bristol‘s first graduation ceremony in China on Saturday, held in ChinaWorld Hotel in Beijing. There were more than 200 students who received their degrees, including Li Ye, one of the first BCFN Masters’ students!
It was wonderful to share this experience with him – congratulations Li! See also the UoB’s Weibo pages for more photos and further details (in Chinese!).
End-of-term meal!
As today was the last day of term, members of the Hall and Faul research groups descended on Cosmo (as usual!) for an excellent all-you-can-eat buffet lunch!
Wishing all a great Easter break!

7 FRG members at Elecmol ’12 in Grenoble, France
Seven group members (Feli, Saravanan, Angel, Alex, James, Ben and Charl) are attending Elecmol ’12 in Grenoble, France (with 6 posters and 1 oral presentation!). This exciting event, co-organised by our close collaborator Dr Patrice Rannou, has been a very good way of experiencing good science (and some good food!).
The event is held at Minatec’s conference facility in Grenoble.
Sunset over Bristol!
Kyoto!
Charl, Merv, Peng and David arrived in Kyoto over the weekend before heading off to the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba. On Sunday they had a chance to walk around some of Koyoto’s exquisite temples and very interesting shopping areas, and enjoy some fantastic Japanese food! Certainly worth another visit to this historical city!
