A multi-author paper, “Double Smectic Self-Assembly in Block Copolypeptide Complexes” appeared very recently in the ACS journal Biomacromolecules, with contributions from a number of collaborators, including Charl, and Patrice Rannou, a close collaborator of the FRG.

New FRG member – Ke Wang
Dr Ke Wang joined the FRG as a new postdoc, working jointly with Mike Fraser (Computer Science), Martin Cryan (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) and Charl on a exciting project on 3D printing!
Welcome Ke!
Feli and Alex in China
Feli and Alex are currently visiting Tsinghua University, Beijing, to work with students of Prof. Xi Zhang, and enjoyed a weekend away at China’s oldest vineyard, Chateau Changyu.

Peter Walters on 3D printing at the FRG
Dr Peter Walters, from the Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE, came to visit the FRG on Monday, and give a fascinating lecture on 3D printing.
Very interesting, lots of discussion, and a good way to stimulate new collaborative research projects. We look forward to lots of future contact!
Albert Schenning in Bristol
Albert Schenning, from Eindhoven, visited the FRG on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd of October. A mini-symposium was held in conjunction with his excellent lecture, with Ben Brown from the FRG talking about his latest results.
Great to have Albert in Bristol, and we look forward to more contact in the future!
FRG members volunteer at Bisc
A number of members from the FRG helped Charl (volunteer head chef at the Bristol International Student Centre, BISC) to prepare meals for 90 people on Saturday!
Fantastic team work … and really nice hair nets! And at the end of the evening we enjoyed some of our own food, and a well-deserved break with the rest of the Bisc team!
Mini-symposium with Dwight Seferos … and Saravanan Chandrasekaran!
Saravanan contributed to the recent mini-symposium (Wednesday, 26th of September) held in conjunction with the visit of Dwight Seferos from Toronto, Canada. Very nice talks during the afternoon’s symposium!
Chinwe leaving Bristol…
Chinwe, who has just finished her thesis and had her viva, is getting ready to leave Bristol and head back to Nigeria. We had the chance to celebrate with her, while saying goodbye at the same time … and of course wishing her all the best in settling in and with the expected growth of her family!
Here some photos from the group office, and from Cosmo … always a good place for lunch!
Heading back to Bristol
After two further exciting days enjoying fantastic weather in Beijing, the beautiful Tsinghua campus and the exceptional hospitality of Prof Xi Zhang, Prof Huaping Xu and many students, it is time to head back. It was a real privilige to meet the team from the RSC journal “Polymer Chemistry” at Tsinghua at their first International Symposium, as well as many German colleagues at a symposium at the National Centre for Nanoscience and Technology close by.
The next visitors from Bristol to Tsinghua will be Feli and Alex in October.
