Yaoyang Hu (Carl) was born in Guangdong, China. He received his Bachelors degree in Materials Chemistry at South China Agricultural University (SCAU). In his final year, he completed a research project entitled ‘Modify Epoxy Resin by Doping Modified Nanosilica’ under Dr. Ying Luo.

recently obtained his M.Res under the supervision of Prof. Charl FJ Faul & Dr. Simon Hall, working on a project entitled ‘Superconductor from Bio-organic Motifs’.  He then completed his PhD in the FRG at the end of 2016 focused on 3D electroactive architectures!  He is now doing post-doctoral work with the photonics groups, while based in the FRG in the School of Chemistry.
